Double Barn has evolved
We moved here as a family in 1996, with six children under eight years of age, to a freezing, half-completed unloved shell of a building with one toilet and one sink- no doors and a leaking ceiling.
But we loved it…
Another baby arrived in 1997 and we slowly and steadily began the momentous task of renovating the barn on a budget with Mark having a full-time job and no real previous building experience.
It has been a labour of love- lots of mistakes made- and learnt from.
Double Barn is filled with happy memories for us.
Sadly Mark passed away in 2019 before seeing the second phase of the barn completed. But his vision to complete the renovation has been realised by hours of hard work by his sons.
We think that he would have been very pleased with the results.
Our first wedding was held here in 2017 when our eldest son got married. Although not renovated, the barn looked rustic and beautiful and this gave us the idea of starting a wedding venue here.
Two daughter’s weddings later we have decided to give it a go and Double Barn Weddings was started.
